OUR SPEAKERS

Peter Ridgway
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR AT REACH SEPARATIONS

Peter is a chemist by trade with a very keen interest in supercritical fluids, chromatography and purification. He has worked in and around the pharmaceutical industry for over 25 years. Since 2011 Peter has enjoyed the challenges of co-founding and directing Reach Separations, a company that delivers purification services and chromatographic expertise to clients from Pharma and agrochemical sectors across Europe and the US.

Holger Gumm
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AT SEPIATEC

Qualified as a chemical engineer and spending his earlier years in chromatography of natural products and pharmaceutical products, Holger took a strong interest in chromatography which led to him jointly founding Sepiatec GmbH in 2000.
Holger is actively involved in advancing the fast moving field of SFC by providing practical and market ready solutions for the preparative market.

Andrew Baker
SALES MANAGER (NORTH, UK) AT ADVION BIOSCIENCES

Andrew's career includes over 20 years with Shell and AstraZeneca within their analytical laboratories, providing analytical support and input into company projects whilst developing analytical technologies and capabilities. Currently the UK sales Manager for Advion with responsibility for the full range of applications for the Expression CMS.

Dr. Induka Abeysena
PRODUCT MANAGER FOR EVAPORATORS & CONCENTRATORS AT SP SCIENTIFIC GENEVAC LTD.

Induka has been dedicated for over 15 years to the development of applications and technologies to support the broad range of industry sectors represented by the Genevac family of users. Her work has helped to move the field of centrifugal evaporation from 'concept' thinking to instruments that the global scientific community has come to rely upon.

Ian Bailey
SENIOR BDE (GENEVAC PRODUCT SPECIALIST) AT BIOPHARMA GROUP

Ian is the Genevac product specialist for the Biopharma Group. Involved with the Genevac equipment for over 16 years Ian has gained extensive experience of areas where centrifugal rotary evaporators can benefit the scientist, with a particular interest in drug discovery. He also has a wide range experience over many years within the UK laboratory field.

AGENDA

MORNING SESSION

SFC; has every Cliché been used? (40 Min)
Peter Ridgway, Reach Separations, UK

It's safe to say the development and science surrounding SFC has been tarnished with a multitude of clichÉs. Its introduction to the chromatographic community has been a stop-start affair. Reliability, safety, reproducibility etc, etc have often detracted from the overwhelming value the technique adds. Yes there isn't a C18 equivalent and yes CO2 is part of the mobile phase but when open minds accept and even harness these challenges a very powerful tool is unearthed and utilised.

The presentation attempts to unravel some of the mystic around SFC, demonstrate the strength of the technique from an analytical and purification perspective and hopefully put to bed some of these clichÉs.

Different Applications - One Technology Platform (40 Min)
Holger Gumm, Sepiatec, Gmb

The presentation will address building flexibility into to your lab through dedicated system approach using the SFC M5

Coffee break (20 Mins)

Mass Spec & preparative SFC (40 Min)
Andrew Baker, Advion, UK

A brief introduction to the Advion MS instrument and its integration with the Sepiatec SFC, benefits and advantages of MS detection in preparative SFC will be discussed and some examples shown.

Round Table Discussion (20 Min)

BREAK FOR LUNCH

AFTERNOON SESSION

Polymorphic studies under evaporative conditions (40 Min)
Induka Abeysena, SP / Genevac, UK

Summary of controlled evaporation rate studies for polymorphism investigations enabling multiple solvents to be studied in parallel

Streamlining your SFC purification and solvent evaporation processes for optimum recoveries (30 Min)
Ian Bailey, Biopharma, UK

From reaction mixture to dried compounds, a review of how to gain time, reduce sample interaction and improve recovery

Round Table Discussion (20 Min)
